Christmas day was a mixture of high winds, a little bit of snow, and bitter temperatures. Today, the day after Christmas, was a little better and I couldn’t wait any longer to check the cameras. The cameras had been out for six days and I was eager to check them, especially the video cameras.
I didn’t have much in the way of still images. A coyote sauntered up the trail and I caught his backside. I also had a few interesting night time photos of a snowstorm.
But one of my video cameras had been moved about ninety degrees from North to West on the tree. One of the latches was partially open. I knew I had lion video. I checked the still image camera first. That camera had several partial shots of a young lion.

We have fresh snow on the ground this morning. Yahoo! Fresh snow equals fresh tracks. The last time it snowed I saw quite a few bobcat tracks. Then the activity came to a screeching halt when the bitter temperatures hit (below zero). As soon as the snow stops falling I’ll be back up to check my cameras. At this point it will probably be after Christmas.

December has been a fairly quiet month. Early in the month I did capture a few photos of a magnificent lion. These were night shots. I also had a bobcat saunter by one of the cameras high on on a main ridge. There is a lot of Bighorn Sheep activity on that ridge.

Over the last few weeks I’ve had cameras (still and video) set up on Rock Ridge. I’ve had a few deer saunter by as well as three separate bobcats and a coyote. I was not successful getting video footage or still images of the bobcats or coyote. Next time.
